A Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1997 and former Associate Judge of the 245th District Court, Harris County, Texas (1998-2000), Patricia J. Lasher has over seventeen years of experience in all facets of family law and has been certified in the practice of family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for more than ten years. As a litigator, her representation has included divorce, disputed property valuations and divisions of property, contested custody and child support matters, paternity, grandparent rights, common law marriage. With trial and settlement experience, alternative dispute resolution training and service on the bench, she also brings valuable insight to her practice as a mediator and arbitrator.

Upon graduation from Vanderbilt University, Ms. Lasher was a reporter with The Commercial Appeal, in Memphis. She later received her J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center. She completed her mediation training at the A.A. White Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of the University of Houston.

Ms. Lasher has been a member of the faculty of the American Bar Association’s Trial Institute Family Law, conducted annually at the UH Law Center, since 1992. She is additionally a faculty member of the AAML Institute for New Associates in Chicago. A frequent speaker and author on family law issues, Ms. Lasher has presented papers and participated in trial demonstrations for the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association, the State Bars of Texas, Colorado, Kentucky and South Carolina, along with the University of Houston Law Center, South Texas College of Law, the Houston Bar Association and the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

Actively involved in professional organizations, Ms. Lasher has been a Director of the Family Law Section of the Houston Bar Association, a member of the State Bar of Texas Continuing Legal Education Committee, on the Board of Directors of the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program and of Lone Star Legal Aid. She is additionally a member of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, the Gulf Coast Family Law Specialists, the Burta Rhodes Raborn Family Law Inns of Court and the Association of Women Attorneys.

Actively involved in community organizations, Ms. Lasher is a past President of the University of Houston Law Center Alumni Association. Additionally, she is a member of the Boards of the Houston Public Library, where she served as Chairman for three years, and of INPRINT. She was named a member of the Board of Directors of the national Urban Libraries Council in 2003. Past board service has included the Contemporary Arts Museum, the friends of St. Luke’s Nursing and the Greater Houston Women’s Foundation.
